It’s almost Chinese New Year. I’m continuing with my tradition of presenting my grandmother with an amigurumi of each year’s animal. I was inspired to make this little guy and happy to be able to share this free rooster pattern with you all. This will be a short post. I’ll try to take some time to update you all with a longer post soon but for now enjoy! Please tag me if you make him and are sharing your photos. Let me know if you see any errors.

2017 Rooster
Yields a doll about 3 inches tall not including the comb

2.5mm crochet hook & 1.5mm crochet hook
Yarns (worsted weight)
Premier Deborah Norville Everyday in snow white
Red Heart Soft in Really Red
Yellow embroidery thread. I used some I got from Daiso
9mm Safety Eyes
Pink felt for cheeks
Stuffing (Polyfil etc.)

Abbreviations
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
inc = increase (2 single crochet in each stitch)
dec =decrease (2 single crochet together)
Head/Body
Using White Yarn with 2.5mm crochet hook
R1 Make a magic ring with 6 sc
R2 Inc 6 (12st)
R3 Sc 12 (12)
R4 [Sc 1, Inc 1] Repeat 6 times (18)
R5 Sc 18 (18)
R6 [Sc 2, Inc 1] Repeat 6 times (24)
R7 Sc 24 (24)
R8 [Sc 3, Inc 1] Repeat 6 times (30)
R9-12 Sc 30

Place safety eyes between R8 and R9 5sc apart and start stuffing

Rooster Comb
Using Red Yarn with 2.5mm crochet hook
Ch 4 (Foundation chain)
R1: Starting from second chain from hook, Sc 3 and slst in each of the 3 links
Optional: To make the middle round stand up more you can substitute the sc for dc
Leave a tail for sewing on to the head.
Wings (make 2)
Using White Yarn with 2.5mm crochet hook
R1 Make a magic ring with 6 sc
R2 Inc 6 (12st)
R3 Sc 12 (12)
R4 [Sc 1, Inc 1] Repeat 6 times (18)
Fold the circle in half and sew the open end closed leaving a long tail for sewing onto the body
Tail
Using White Yarn with 2.5mm crochet hook
Make a magic ring with 4 sc
3dc and slst (repeat in 3 of the 4 loops)
You’ll end up with a clover shape.
Leave a tail to sew onto the body
Beak
Using yellow embroidery thread and 1.5mm hook
Ch 7 (foundation chain)
R1: Starting from second chain from hook, Sc 6 in back loops of foundation chain. Turn and Sc 6 in front loops of the foundation chain (12 sts)

R2 Inc, sc 4, inc,inc, sc 4, inc (16)

Fasten and leave a tail for sewing
Feet (make 2)
Using yellow embroidery thread and 1.5mm hook
Ch 9 (foundation chain)
R1: Starting from second chain from hook, Sc 8 in back loops of foundation chain. Turn and Sc 8 in front loops of the foundation chain (16 sts)

R4 *Sc 2, dec* repeat 6 times (18)

Sew the opening closed so that there is a vertical seam
Leave a tail for sewing
Assembly
Sew the wings at an angle half way up the body
Sew on the tail to the back
Sew the comb to the top of the head
Sew the beak on between the eyes
Sew the feet on wide enough apart for it to balance and stand
Cut pink circles out of the felt for cheeks and glue them on
